Scout Group embark on a fundraising campaign for a minibus

Date published: 25 November 2015

1st Middleton Scout Group is embarking on a fundraising campaign to purchase a 17-seater minibus, and they are looking for your help.

The Scout Group was founded in 1912, and provides activities for local children and young people from the age of 5 to 18-years-old. To do this, they rely purely on adult volunteers giving up hours of their spare time and community funding.

Scouting in Middleton has grown in recent years and the numbers within each section - Beavers, Cubs, Scout and Explorers - have increased dramatically within the local community.

Jonathan Gillibrand, Explorer Scout Leader, said: “Our aim in scouting is to provide the young people with lasting memories and life skills which they can build on in later life. I have always believed that being part of scouting and undertaking activities, like the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and Queen’s Scout Award, is something that fulfils these aims. It also looks good on a CV, university and job application forms, for the young people involved.

“The past year has become an uphill struggle for our group, especially for disadvantaged families who may not drive or do not have the use of a car. We do not want the less privileged members missing out on activities and trips as the whole idea of scouting is to be 'accessible to all'. So, with this in mind, we are planning to purchase a minibus for the group.

“Over the next few months, we are planning a huge fundraising campaign to purchase a 17-seater minibus.

“We are starting with a Christmas Fair, with snacks and food, axe throwing, guess the bear, face painting, wine glass charms, badge making, tombola and lots more.

“We are also looking for local companies and organisations to sponsor the minibus, and in return, have your logo displayed on the vehicle.

"If you feel that you could help in any way towards this worthy cause any donations big or small would be greatly appreciated."
