Christmas at Littleborough Community Primary School

Date published: 17 December 2015

The Nativities have been wonderful. Foundation Stage did ‘Wriggly Nativity’, KS1 did ‘What Christmas means to me’ and KS2 ‘Christmas Celebration’. Thank you so much.

Year 6 children really joined in the spirit on Christmas Hat day when you all donated your mince pies. There were so many that we have been able to donate 3 bags of pies and biscuits to the Foodbank!

Pantomime

The panto, Mother Goose, came to Littleborough Primary School on Friday 11 December.’ Oh no they didn’t …. Oh yes they did!

PTFA made it very special by paying for all the children. Thanks to all parents for your contributions for the refreshments.

Thank you

The Foundation Stage would like to thank the Ride Stuff in Littleborough for the donation of prizes for their sponsored cycle ride. They raised £600 for role play equipment and a new cycle track which will be fitted next term.

Christmas Pop up shop

These lucky children met Father Christmas. We made £206 profit for the PTFA to spend on the children.

School Council

We have a brilliant school council who are always looking for ways to raise money and improve school. They had the idea for a Christmas Wow day on Thursday 10 December. Children wore a Xmas jumper or hat and brought in a £1.00 for school funds. There was also a fun game to take part in, thank you to all the Rudolphs. We raised £345 for school funds.

We have been asked to mention for the Band who played at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 25 November. The number of people who have complimented them on their outstanding behaviour and performance is far beyond the school itself. Teachers and parents from other schools and even from other parts of the country have been in touch to say well done.

Update on improvements to the School building and site

Demolition will finish on 18 December and handover will take place on 21st December. Thank you for your understanding and support. The school entrance near the dining room will then be remodeled soon afterwards. The whole area will be securely fenced off during the Christmas holidays. The vacant area is to be seeded as our request for additional car parking has been refused by the LA.

New Books

The last Book Fair helped us to raise over £500 for school books. Thank you. We have added to this and started replacing our home school reading books with beautiful new books. We have already spent over £2500 with more planned and everyone is delighted with the quality of these interesting and enjoyable books. We have also bought extra resources to help children with their reading comprehension during guided reading.
We were wondering if we could start a new tradition with your help. We are a healthy school and so parents do not send sweets in for their child’s birthday. However, they do want to mark this special day in some way. What about sending in a book for the class library? You could write inside the front cover, ‘Donated to Littleborough CPS school on the 6th birthday of Jane Smith 14.12.15’. That way everyone benefits!

Severe weather conditions

In very severe weather, we may have to temporarily close the school. The responsibility for this decision lies with the Headteacher and Chair of Governors. We will always try to open or partially open and provide as full a provision as possible. Closure of school is a last resort once all other options have been considered. However the decision will need to be based on the safety and/or welfare of the pupils and staff. The council’s website www.rochdale.gov.uk/snow is the single point of reference, drawing together the latest and most accurate information on all services affected by snow or severe weather. We will always text you immediately. We will also text everyone to say we are open, if that is the case, in bad weather. This worked well. Children who really can’t get in will be marked as authorized.

Parents Focus Group/ Forum.

2 parents met on Tuesday 1 December with Mrs. Sinker and Mrs. Percival with some great ideas for Maths homework after Christmas and some questions about Maths. We were able to explain that every child does an Operation Challenge each morning to practice numbers facts in an enjoyable way.
