Recruits wanted to join The BEAT

Date published: 18 July 2012

Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA) is recruiting for The BEAT – a brand new consultation group for police and crime.

Hundreds have already taken up this unique opportunity to influence policing and community safety where they live, be the first to discuss current police and crime issues, take part in free prize draws and get priority invites to GMPA events.

Views will also be shared with Greater Manchester’s first Police and Crime Commissioner when they are elected in November.

Paul Murphy, Chairman of GMPA, said: “The BEAT is all about building engagement and transparency with our communities, and almost 500 people have signed up so far. We know there are lots more out there who are passionate about their neighbourhoods and are eager to, not only have a say on how we deliver policing services, but feel they are being listened to. The BEAT provides just this opportunity, plus the few added perks to getting involved!

“We’re not asking people to trudge along to meetings or fill out endless questionnaires. Members of The BEAT can take part from the comfort of their own homes and get involved in vital discussions about issues such as disability hate crime and prioritising police resources. This is the public’s chance to influence policing and community safety across Greater Manchester.”

Each month members of The BEAT will be sent a question about a current police and crime issue. They will be invited to get involved in the discussion and feedback their views by email, post or online.
