Leyland and Chorley Men's Thirds 1 - 3 Rochdale Seconds

Date published: 12 January 2016

Saturday saw the restart of the Northwest Hockey League after the Christmas break. With Rochdale second’s traveling to Leyland and Chorley and coming away with victory.

Rochdale's closet rivals, Springfield's game had started at 12 noon, so Rochdale were aware Springfield had won and were keeping the pressure on before the start.

Having travelled with second keeper Danny Whittaker, usual goalkeeper Jimmy Deacy was given the responsibility of an outfield position and Deacy gave a deserved man-of-the-match performance and set up one of the three goals scored.

With a flat 11 and no substitutes the first game back was always going to be hard work, and a 3-1 victory was welcomed by the Rochdale team. Goals coming from Graham Burrill, Fred Stock and Dean Close.

Captain Karl Wynn commented: “We knew the first game was going to be tough, but we got what we came for and are now fully focused for the final push."
