David Syers joins Rochdale

Date published: 18 January 2016

David Syers, the former Scunthorpe United midfielder, has signed a deal with Rochdale until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old began his career in non-league before making the move into professional football in the summer of 2010 when he joined Bradford City.

A move to Doncaster Rovers followed two years later. During his time at Rovers he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Scunthorpe United and made a permanent switch to Scunthorpe in January 2014.

He left Scunthorpe earlier this month.

Dale Manager Keith Hill says he is delighted to have secured Syers' services: “David is a good player. He has pedigree, he scores goals, he is an effective midfield player, he knows what to do in both boxes and he has got the right experience.

“As well as coming in to stake a claim for a place in the starting line-up, I think it creates good competition. I think he’ll educate one or two of the young boys as well.”

Syers has been given squad number 29.
