Littleborough Rugby Union Club will attempt to gain promotion the hard way

Date published: 05 May 2016

After just missing out on automatic promotion and the Lancashire North title on a dramatic final day to Trafford MV, Littleborough Rugby Union Club will have to gain promotion the hard way with a tough fixture against Cumbria league champions Egremont.

Rakewood will be the battleground for two sides desperate to finish the season on a high and gain what they feel is a deserved reward for a long hard season.

Egremont will make the long journey south looking to see their way out of a complicated league.

The Cumbrian league had 13 teams in the division at the start of the season but three teams dropped out. The effect of the withdrawals is that Egremont have not played a competitive game for three weeks. Nevertheless, it does not take anything away from a side that has lost just three games all season scoring exactly 500 points in the process and are unbeaten in five matches.

Littleborough have only had a one week break, and have lost only two games in the league, both away from home, and go into the game as favourites having made Rakewood a fortress.

The large vocal support will again be key if Littleborough are to end the wait a long wait for another promotion.

The director of rugby has fresh legs and a fully fit squad to choose from, the only exceptions being long term absentees Nathan Ripley and David Kearns.

Kick off is 3pm with refreshments and food available throughout the afternoon.
