Boro U12s one try away from tournament success

Date published: 07 May 2016

Littleborough RUFC under 12 boys finished a valiant second in the local Rochdale U12s tournament.

Looking to mirror the trophy winning success of their under 14 junior counterparts, Boro U12s set to putting teams from across Greater Manchester to the sword and were so close to leaving local rivals Rochdale with the just rewards of glory.

In the tournament opener, Littleborough were given the difficult task of facing Warrington, a team who beat Boro 6-1 last time they played each other. This time around they played out an enthralling 1-1 draw.

Next up on the hit list was West Lancashire outfit Tarleton, who they dispatched with consummate ease winning the game 3-1 and showing real touches of quality.

The next team to be overcome by the Littleborough free flowing rugby was Stockport, who were brand new opposition having never faced before and came out victorious once again.

With first place well and truly in their grasp, the final game was a cracker of a local derby as both Rochdale and Littleborough fought tooth and nail for victory.

The pulsating game ended 1-1, a score that Boro will feel slightly gutted about it was not a true reflection of the game play given the amount of possession they had, and what made it all the more frustrating for the Rakewood outfit one more try scored would have won the tournament on tries scored.

A club spokesman said: "The boys can take a huge amount of confidence and credit for a fantastic result to conclude their unbeaten season."
