Norden fail to reach 100 as they lose to Saddleworth

For the second league match on the bounce Norden failed to reach 100 when they travelled to face Saddleworth in the JW Lees Pennine League on Saturday.

They did better their previous score against Greenfield, but they were all out for 98 on a tricky wicket which saw Saddleworth lose eight wickets in their winning reply.

It was far from a decent batting performance by Norden who made their way to 21 before losing three wickets.

Malik was caught for 18, Michael Price was caught for three, and Simon North was caught without scoring.

It got worse for Norden two runs later when Steve Pimm was bowled by Akram who finished with five for 28.

There was a respite in the tumbledown as Ash Gowers and Harvey Fitton took the total up to 45, but Fitton then became one of seven Stags’ players to fall to catches.

Apart from opener Malik, Fitton and Gowers were the only ones to get into double figures.
Gowers was last out, for 36.

Saddleworth’s reply saw Akram go without scoring, and Darren Shadford was bowled by Chris Hartley to make it 20 for two.

James Howard and professional Imran Aslam put on 53 before spin took effect for Stags, Aslam being caught by Dan Buckley, off Price for 36.

Wickets tumbled, with Price taking two more and Nick Fairchild taking three for two in four overs, three of them maidens.

Saddleworth crossed the line with two wickets in hand.
