Nicola White helps Team GB reach Olympic hockey quarter-finals
Date published: 11 August 2016
Nicola White has helped Team GB’s woman’s hockey team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Olympic games after a 3-2 win over Argentina on Wednesday (10 August).
Littleborough-born Nicola was a substitute but was on the field at the time of all three of her side’s goals, as Team GB took a 3-0 lead inside 38 minutes.
Helen Richardson-Walsh scored twice – one penalty corner and one field goal – as Sophie Bray netted the other from a field goal before Argentina pulled two back late in the third quarter.
Team GB held on for the victory, though, and remain level on points with the United States, who they will face in a potential top of Pool B decider at 10pm on Saturday (13 August).
Before then, Nicola and her teammates will face Japan at 12.30am on Friday (12 August).
