Walking football tournament, the Martin Dawson Memorial Over 60s Trophy
A walking football tournament, the Martin Dawson Memorial Over 60s Trophy, was held at Heywood Sports Village Sunday 11 September.
The tournament attracted teams from all over the North West of England.
Steve Colesby, who played in the tournament for Rochdale said: “It was a great experience for many of the guys who had not played competitive football for many years and some who thought they never would again.”
The eventual winners after some very competitive games were Wakefield Wanderers.
Two local teams, Rochdale AFC Strollers and the Rochdale Striders, performed well.
Mr Dawson was a keen walking football player who died last year, the tournament was held to commemorate his life and interest in the sport.
