Rochdale Hornets celebrate victory in the League One Promotion Final against Toulouse Olympique
An appeal has been launched by former Hornets CEO Ryan Bradley to fund an extra 12 medals for Hornets after their League One Championship victory - only a limited number were awarded to the club.
The Hornets triumphed as rank outsiders against Toulouse Olympique to earn their place in the Championship.
Mr Bradley said: “Obviously with travel, we had to leave behind a few members of coaching staff, one of the masseuses and all the players who weren’t selected - they should all have medals.
“They have earned them. I don’t believe the club, which has worked so hard, should have to purchase a medal.
“All of the players work full time and give up two evenings a week, plus Saturdays and Sundays, to represent Rochdale.”
Only the players and coaching staff who travelled to Toulouse were awarded with medals, despite having to take unpaid leave from work with just six days’ notice.
The extra medals would cover the staff who could not attend the final match in Toulouse, and the players who played in at least eight games this season but were not selected for the final match.
