Football: Kaylea Cunliffe scores on Man City debut and makes national team final trials

Date published: 04 November 2016

In the space of one week, Kaylea Cunliffe scored on her debut for Manchester City F.C. Women’s Reserves and made the English Colleges National Team final trials.

Having scored a crucial goal in the 2-1 win against Birmingham City Ladies on Sunday, the Hopwood Hall College student is now only one trial away from playing for the English Colleges National Team.

After passing the phase one trials, Kaylea has been invited to the final trials at The City Ground in Nottingham on the 6 November. Success at the final trials will see her represent Hopwood Hall College in the national side.

An ecstatic Kaylea said of her achievements: “It’s been an incredibly fulfilling week.

”I am really enjoying my BTEC course at Hopwood Hall, I love being in the City Football Academy and since I play for City Women as well it’s really helping my development training with the coaches every day.

”Making it to the final trials for the English College’s National Team is a really big achievement for me after all the hard work and training I have done.”

Having only started her course recently, Kaylea’s rapid rise has raised eyebrows among those who work with her.

Mike Bruns, Program Manager at Hopwood Hall, commented on his immense pride of Kaylea: “After starting our Level 3 Extended Diploma in September, Kaylea has demonstrated strengths both in the classroom and on the pitch; the combination we are looking for on this course.

"I am really happy she has been recognised for her footballing ability and we wish her every success playing for City and on achieving a place in the English College National team representing Hopwood Hall.”
