Date published: 14 November 2016
Rochdale Rockets represented the region and the North of England at one of Europe’s premier International Basketball tournaments in Ireland.
Teams from Ireland, UK, Spain, France, Croatia, USA, Slovenia and Italy competed and all donations went to the organisers chosen charities for the 2016 basketball tournament ‘Voices for Down Syndrome Galway’ and the ‘Galway Hospice Foundation’.
Both Rochdale teams, 40+ and 50+, did very well in their respective divisions and made it to the final stages of the tournament.
The 40+ team joined forces with Rovinj, Croatia and played some excellent basketball beating teams from Ireland, France and Spain.
Rockets players:
Steve White, Donal Cummins, Matt Ellmore, Phil Rose, Alan Craigen, Dave Broome, Dave Fearn, Simo Banjac, Michel Thompson, Mike Marks, Ian Halt and our new Croatian signing for the event Armando, Nereo and Kruno Tembel.
A club spoesperson said: "Many thanks goes to the organisers of Galway Maters for staging yet another fantastic event."
