Motorcycle racing: John Oliver wins North West Championship
Date published: 21 December 2016
John Oliver decided to take up racing after 35 years of building bikes
John Oliver, a local motorcycle mechanic, has won the North West Championship in his first year of Racing.
John, 51, from Castleton, took up racing after 35 years of building bikes that other people have used to win events such as the Isle of Man Classic TT.
Streetstock 125s are a cheap and easy way to have a go at racing with Preston and District Motorcycle Club at Three Sisters race circuit in Wigan. Started at the beginning of 2016 with John's input regarding the technical rules, the aim is to get more people into the sport safely.
The bikes are basically 125cc street bikes with everything taken off to make them race worthy.
Starting small, interest has grown and next year's series has already doubled the initial numbers.
Anyone interested in taking part should contact the club.
