Rugby Union: Littleborough RUFC remembers ‘Big Joe Stott’ at annual Old Boys event

Date published: 18 January 2017

Rochdalians and Littleborough RUFC held their annual event for past players on Saturday 14 January, but this year’s reunion was also an opportunity to remember former player ‘Big Joe Stott’.

Over 60 past players and members attended the afternoon at the club’s Rakewood ground. Weather had cancelled the planned home fixture, but the group still managed to have a group photo taken before talking with friends over a pint and food.

As well as discussing memorable moments from Littleborough seasons as far back as the 1970s, the afternoon allowed players to remember and honour Joe Stott, who died in 2016.

A reunion has been held since 2010 and was the idea of Mr Stott. He organised the annual event with close friend Brian Tynan, who has now taken up the mantle of organising alongside Steve Beckwith.

During the afternoon, Mr Tynan was left speechless after he was presented with a framed photograph of himself with close friend ‘Big Joe’.
