Rugby Union: Littleborough Rugby Union's Erin and Ben Stott playing for Lancashire

Date published: 27 January 2017

Erin and Ben Stott, of Littleborough Rugby Union, are making waves in the Lancashire youth rugby union set-up.

Ben, aged 14 and Erin, aged 13, have made a rapid rise through the Littleborough youth sides to Sale Sharks development player pathway to now representing their county.

Ben is a powerful player who reads the game thoroughly and displays exceptional ball handling skills. He has come through the Littleborough mini and junior sections from age nine and for the past three seasons has represented the Manchester District in the Sale Sharks DPP.

Following intense training this year he has got through to the Lancashire county trials, where he was selected to play prop for the U15s Boys squad. He made his debut for Lancashire County on the 4 January at Burnage RUFC winning against Cheshire.

In his second game at Barnsley RUFC, Lancashire narrowly tasted defeat against their Yorkshire rivals.

Coming up through the Pink Warrior movement, this is Erin’s third season at Littleborough.

Erin trailed for Lancashire county in September and, along with two other U15s and six U18 girls from Littleborough, she was selected for the squad. Erin is the youngest player in the U15s squad and was recognised for her strength and rapid runs, which earned her a place on the wing. She made her debut for Lancashire back in November at Tyndale RFC against Durham where she successfully helped Lancashire to a victory with her first county try. A couple of weeks later Erin played in the Lancashire that couldn't hold Yorkshire at the Vale of Lune.

A club spokesperson said: "Both players are a credit to their coaches hard work.

"Erin’s coach Danny Lawlor is reaping the rewards with strong shows in the county teams and is turning into a fantastic up-an-coming coach the club is immensely proud of.

"Chris Coop, Ben's coach, a former semi-professional rugby player with Huddersfield and Rochdale Hornets, and a former regional coach of England rugby union fly half George Ford, has adopted and transformed a lost U15s boys team into a strong structured squad that is creeping up the league table and has the potential to be the team to be wary of.

"Chris has had a profound effect on Ben, giving him the confidence to believe in his own ability, refining his skills and pushing his fitness to another level."
