Rugby Union: Bolton RUFC 10 - 6 Littleborough RUFC

Date published: 30 January 2017

On a very cold and wet Saturday Littleborough RUFC failed to score a try in a low scoring defeat to Bolton.

From the kick off Littleborough went on the attack using David Kearns in his new position at centre threequarter and took play down into their opponent’s half for the first 10 minutes, however all they had to show for it was a failed penalty attempt.

Bolton got into the match and took over progressing up field to score the only try of the game. The conversion was successful.

A penalty attempt by Bolton missed, no doubt because of the harsh weather conditions.

Full back Chris Park put in an excellent distance kick down field into the Bolton half to relieve some pressure on Littleborough, but they went into the break without scoring.

Player changes in second half saw newcomer Liam Lloyd replaced on the wing by another newcomer in Joel Rawlinson, but only for a short time as Nathan Coop had to leave the field and Lloyd came back on.

With Coop off the field Park was successful with a penalty attempt to open the scoring for Littleborough.

Bolton kept command of the game, though Littleborough made a couple of attacking moves, through Kearns and Whittles in the threequarters and Irving, Edward Chadwick and Stuart Bairstow in the forwards.

Further player changes for Littleborough saw Chris Collins and Paul Fino come on, bringing fresh legs and building more attacking moves. However, it was Park with another converted penalty who brought Littleborough within four points off Bolton.

With a quarter of the game to play, Littleborough supporters were willing their team to score a try but it was not to be and Bolton saw the game out to take the points.

Kearns received ‘Man of the Match’.

Littleborough are at home to Fleetwood next Saturday.
