Rugby Union: Burnley put to the sword by Littleborough's Ladies Pink Warriors

Date published: 21 February 2017

Littleborough's Ladies produced their best performance yet to overcome a tricky Burnley side in front of a packed house at Rakewood.

Level at five a piece after early tries including that of full back Zara Morris, the game was poised on a knife edge as both teams threatened to nudge ahead in what would be a close contest.

Fortunately for the boisterous home support and coaches, it was Littleborough's Pink Warriors that took the advantage with a superb individual effort.

Outside centre Chloe Mansell managed to hold of the attempts of the visitors to get her to ground, before cutting inside and breaking another two tackles to dive down. Claire Harrison added the extras with a neat conversion to take the score to 12-5.

It was going to be an advantage the Littleborough ladies were keen to hold onto and that proved to be the case as Sharon Pearson crashed over for a try from close range not long after. Claire unfortunately couldn't quite find the posts but with a 12-point lead heading into half time, she could be afforded the miss.

Burnley were certainly up for a contest and showed their quality with a try of their own. A knock on by the home side on half way was picked up brilliantly by Burnley's inside centre who used her quick turn of pace to sprint clear of the retreating Littleborough's defence. There was still a chance of a Burnley revival as the extra 2 points were excellently converted from the left side.

However, any chance of a comeback was quashed with two differing scores from the home side to seal victory.

Zara put the finishing touches to a flowing move cutting inside to cut through the gap to dive over before scrum half Georgina recreated a score out of the NFL with a close range leap over the defence to dot down for what would be the clincher.
