Daisi Daniels wins more medals

Date published: 22 February 2017

Rochdale’s skiing champion Daisi Daniels won three fourth place medals at the International Races at the Trofeu Borrufa in Andorra between 30 January and 2 February, and was placed second at the English Championships in Italy.

In Andorra, the fourteen-year-old was placed fourth in Slalom, Alpine Combined and Super G and was one of the youngest contestants in the U16 age category.

The Great Britain team of ten U14 and U16 racers finished in an impressive overall second place, behind Italy and ahead of hosting Andorra. 18 nations and 31 teams competed in the event, with medals awarded to the top five in each discipline.

Daisi, who is a pupil at Beech House School in Rochdale, got straight back into training for the English Championships. She trains with the British Ski Academy in Pila, Italy and at Chillfactore in Manchester.

She raced in near-perfect sunny conditions for the English Championships in the Slalom and Giant Slalom events.

Daisi’s first event was Slalom, she had a shaky first run and had to hike back a gate before continuing to the finish, a mistake that cost her the title, putting her in 14th place after the first run. Having nothing to lose, she gave everything her all on her second run, giving her a combined time that allowed her to storm into second place. Her second run was the fastest of the day in the under 16 girls.

Daisi’s second event was the Giant Slalom, where she put in two decent runs to gain another second place, but took a tumble in the Super G (DNF) so missed out on the overall title.

The English Championships in Bormio, Italy and attracts over 400 of Britain’s talented ski racers from under 10s to senior ski racers: the likes of Dave Ryding and four- time Olympian Chemmy Alcott have previously raced in Snow Sports England-run Championships.

Daisi is now on rest before she heads back out to Pila, Italy to train with the British Ski Academy in preparation for her sixth GBR International in Folgaria, Italy in March.

Daisi would like to thank Beech House School, Chill Factore, Fortvale, H Rigg Properties and Atomic Uk for their continued support.
