Football: Sacred Heart FC - Premier Division champions

Date published: 02 May 2017

Sacred Heart Football Club have become the first Rochdale team in history to win the Manchester Football League Premier Division.

They beat East Manchester on Saturday (29 April) by scoring a staggering eight goals.

Top goal scorer for three years running, Thomas Bradburn, scored four goals, Jack Holt scored three, and 18-year-old Jack Wooler scored one.

First team manager Danny McWilliam said: “We’ve had quite a remarkable season; we’ve done well with decent players.

“We’ve achieved something phenomenal with this win. No team from Rochdale has ever won it before. Last season, we were fourth in the league and now we’ve made history by winning.”

Sacred Heart FC also hope to repeat their victory and be the first Rochdale team to bring the Gilgryst Cup home following the final on Friday 12 May at Hyde United.

The reserve team will be taking on Walshaw Sports Reserves in the Open Trophy final at Trafford on Wednesday 3 May at 7.45pm.
