Wood Cup (played Saturday 24 June)

The second round matches saw Crompton, Littleborough, Rochdale and Royton progress to the semi-finals due to be played on Saturday 8 July.

In last week’s fixtures Crompton beat Austerlands by 30 runs. After win-ning the toss Austerlands must have been satisfied in dismissing the home side for 151.

Only Denis Louis with 48 making a significant contribution. Austerlands deputy pro Kelly Smuts took 4 for 22, and then made 64 in their total of 121 all out.

Littleborough at home to Greenfield had Clinton Perren to thank for his 98 which enabled them to reach 203 all out. This proved to be too good for the visitors who only managed 177 in reply.

Chris Gill with 54 and Armand Krugel 34 being their top scorers.

The two championship sides left in the competition Middleton and Royton met at Towncroft and Royton came out on top. Batting first they amassed 235 with some consistent batting. Angus Carruthers hitting 57.

In Middleton’s reply of 206 Grant Jones made 66 and Chris Williams 42.

Rochdale won a close game against Monton & Weaste at Redbrook.

Professional Henry Cooper with 108 before being run out was the mainstay of their batting as they reached 245 for 7 in their 50 overs. Monton were indebted to opener Furqan Shafiq who hit 124, but they fell just short on 234 all out with Michael Harling taking 4 for 43 for the home side.

Tanner Cup

Stayley were the days top scorers in this competition. Visitors Hollinwood won the toss and put the home side in to bat, a decision they must have
regretted when Steven Bird with 79 and Peter Skuse 71 not out helped the Stayley reach 269 for 3.

In reply Hollinwood had no answer to Stayley pro Hamza Nadeem who yet again hit the 5-wicket mark in taking 5 for 22 as they were bowled out for 122.

Moorside won the toss and chose to bat away to Heyside. However they were all out for 151 with Danny Cashin taking 4 for 34 and Matthew Chadwick 3 for 16 doing the damage. Heyside did not have things all their own way when batting, but a patient 53 from skipper Ryan Barnes enabled them to reach 154 for 8.

At Ladyhouse Friarmere batted first and with Asif Qayyum hitting 67 to-talled 203 for 9. Milnrow batted disappointingly in being bowled out for only 90.

For Friarmere Bryce Allchin conceded only 6 runs in 6 overs and finished with 4 for 6 while’st Ishtaq Hussain took 5 for 17.

Norden at home to Saddleworth had a comfortable 7 wicket victory. After being put in to bat the visitors crawled to 119 All out in 42.4 overs. Simon North taking 3 for 3 and Naveed Zamurad 4 for 28.

With Josh Tolley scoring 56 the home side cruised through to the semi-finals as they reached 122 for 3.
