Thornham v Westleigh
Thornham pushed onward in their quest for promotion from the GMCL Division Two with a fine 34 run win over Westleigh on Saturday.
Despite inclement weather in the week leading up to the match it is a credit to the Thornham groundsman that the game started on time and no overs were lost.
Batting first Thornham struggled, with only the middle order of Howarth (47), Deakin (41) and Grey (21) posting scores of note. Thornham finished 165 all out off 43.1 overs.
However, this proved to be enough to defend with Westleigh finishing on 131 all out off 42 overs.
The match hung in the balance until the last five overs, with both teams still in with a chance.
Quick fielding and fine keeping resutled in Thornham picking up a series of wickets and closing the match as a contest.
Pick of the bowlers Deakin (3-17) and Clough (2-26).
The result leaves Thornham second placed in the table, five points behind leaders Astley & Tyldesley.
