Rugby Union: Burnage Thirds 10 - 33 Littleborough Rugby Union Thirds

Date published: 05 February 2018

Littleborough Thirds continued their winning form with a composed and clinical performance to win against Burnage Thirds at at Varley Park.

The game was played at a frenetic speed, with tLittleborough making the most of opportunities presented.

Straight from the kick off Littleborough broke into their stride and controlled proceedings with good ball carrying from David Mills and Mat Wild.

Alex Sutcliffe, on his return from injury, broke through three defenders from a few metres out on his way to the whitewash, scoring his first of the year.

Burnage responded with a penalty try, the referee penalising Littleborough for a hold up tackle on the try line as Burnage took a quick tap penalty six metres out.

Full back Konrad Hill dotted down for Littleborough, following the good work of Sutcliffe and Anthony Stephenson to create the space and draw in the defenders.

Littleborough had their third try of the afternoon, and important breathing space, when winger Kieron Bonnie was the recipient of fast free flowing ball through the hands down the right channel to run around the tiring Burnage defence.

Burnage added three points from a penalty and scored another try before the half time break.

There was still time for Littleborough second row James Muir to brush off the desperate last-ditch tackle to dive over on the left-hand side.

With the game very much in Littleborough's favour, Burnage started the second half trying to find a way to bludgeon their way through, but were met with quality tackling from the visitors.

In attack, Littleborough kept up their clinical edge and punished Burnage errors with two more tries.

First Konrad Hill scored his second try as the ball was once moved out to the right-hand side by Tom Travis and Stephen Shepherd to the young full back who squeezed over.

Shepherd then turned try scorer as he profited from a legal kick through the ruck by Anthony Stephenson to collect the loose ball and go over for the final score of the game.
