Rugby Union: Littleborough Seconds 25 - 29 De La Salle Seconds

Date published: 02 April 2018

A late try helped De La Salle come back to snatch narrow victory over Littleborough at Rakewood.

For Littleborough it was a case of what might have been as lead 20 -0 at the half time interval.

However, the second half was the opposite as De La Salle overhauled Boro to snatch victory in the final minutes.

Early successful spot kicks from the boot of Littleborough’s Richard Taylor set the stall for the home side in muddy conditions at Rakewood.

Scrum half Taylor dummied his way through a gap in the visitors’ defence to dot down in the left corner.  Taylor converted his own try.

Chris Collins made it two tries in two matches when he dribbled the ball at the back of the scrum from 25 metres out with De La Salle struggling to cope with the drive from the Boro forwards.

With such a lead at the break and the standard of performance in the first half the victory points looked to be all Boro’s, yet De La Salle had other ideas.

Starting the second half as they meant to go on, De La Salle scored their first of five tries by using a mismatch in numbers to dive in on the blind side.

That was followed shortly after as De La Salle went in for their second and  sniffed hope of a comeback.

Littleborough looked to have squashed that hope when Danny Lawlor handed off the right winger before holding off two further tacklers to dive down in the right corner. Richard Taylor’s conversion attempt fell short.

However, De la Salle turned the game on its head.

A charge down from the number six in Boro’s in goal saw them reduce the deficit, before a well worked move out left was finished off comfortably by the winger.

With seven minutes left on the clock and the victory now very much up for grabs for both teams, De La Salle landed the knockout blow as they dived over in the right corner.
