Rugby League: Mayfield 10 - 16 Wath Brow

Date published: 09 April 2018

Still without a win this season, Mayfield paid the price for not finishing the opportunities they created and were left kicking themselves as Wath Brow left Rochdale with the points.

The strong Cumbrian side were matched in the early stages and good forward running from Moore and Marriott put Matty Chrimes over for a well worked try to open the scoring for Mayfield. The the conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Mayfield created futher chances but were unable to convert them into points.

With less than a minute to the half time hooter a frantic series of passes saw the Wath Brow centre offload from the floor into his winger’s hands and he went over in the corner.

Half time: Mayfield 4 -  4 Wath Brow

Mayfield lost a bit of direction in the second half, Marriott, Sheridan and Moore plugged away but to no avail.

Wath Brow added two converted tries and Mayfield looked out of it but captain Brearley rallied the players and they took the game back to Wath Brow.

Mayfield were unlucky not to score, being held up over the line on two occasions before Brandon Wood squeezed through a gap for a Ieuan Higgs converted try.

It looked like they were back in  the game, but the Wath Brow defence held firm and denied the Mayfield the win they desperately needed.
