Boxing: Aeron Maddocks wins by unanimous decision

Date published: 16 April 2018

Aeron Maddocks, of Hamer Boxing Club box, beat by Gavin Allinson Chambers of Bishop Auckland by unanimous decision.

Maddocks wasted no time in locking horns with the home crowd favourite Chambers.

The bell rang for the first round and the 15-year-old Hamer youngster forced his opponent into the ropes where he began to unload heavy blows to both the body and head to take the first round.

Maddocks came out in round two to silence the crowd and continued to take the fight to his opponent with crisp and powerful combinations.

Chambers landed two cracking hooks to the head of the Hamer boxer and the partisan crowd roared in delight until Maddocks answered with a terrifically timed rear hand uppercut which sent Chambers head up into the air.

In the third and final round, Maddocks showed his fitness as he continued to pursue his opponent around the ring whilst throwing punishing combinations.

Chambers started to tire and it showed as he landed only the occasional reply.

With seconds to go Maddocks forced Chambers on to the ropes to land more hurtful punches to the body and head.

Maddocks took all three rounds by unanimous decision.

Also on the card at Bishop Auckland was 10-year-old Macauley Evans.

Evans, 10, showed no nerves as he stood toe-to-toe with his opponent Mason Beasley of Bishop Auckland ABC and as both boxers traded punches in the middle of the ring the crowd stood to its feet in appreciation.

This continued throughout all three rounds with great work rate from both boxers and although it was a skills bout where nobody gains a verdict, both boxers received a standing ovation for such a terrific bout and both boxers had their hands raised in triumph.
