Myton Warriors 22 – 44 Rochdale Mayfield
Mayfield returned from Hull on Saturday with a much-needed win and their first league points of the season.
Coach Matt Calland was forced to implement wholesale changes to the team due to injuries and other commitments and gave first team debuts to Christian Avis, Jackson Kelly and Joe Muir whilst Lewis Butterworth, Sam Butterworth and Callum Ogden made their first appearance of the season.
The new players showed the necessary passion and commitment to race into a lead that effectively had the game won by half time.
Liam Whalley scored with the first play of the game, and tries from Paul Brearley, Callum Marriott, Sam Butterworth, Cole Connolly and Aidy Gleeson followed as Mayfield ripped holes in the Myton defence time and time again. Aidy Gleeson added four conversions for a commanding 32-0 half time lead.
The second half started much the same as Christian Avis sped in for a try.
Myton hit back to score four tries as Mayfield relaxed, but Keiran Harmer and Cole Connolly scored for Mayfield to seal a creditable away win.
Mayfield Team: Lewis Butterworth. Christain Avis, Jackson Kelly, Matt Calland, Kieran Harmer. Paul Brearley, Sam Butterworth. Nick Hargreaves, Callum Ogden, Aidy Gleeson, Liam Whalley, Callum Marriott, Jake Boardman. Cole Connolly, Andy Taylor, Joe Muir, Macauley Donnelly.
