Rugby Union: Bolton Mets 18 - 42 Littleborough

Date published: 30 April 2018

Littleborough Rugby Union continued their impressive start to the season with victory over Bolton Mets at Greenhalgh's Pavilion.

The game started at a frantic pace with Littleborough getting a little too excited at times but as soon they found their feet, the promotion chasers put together a good handling move to feed Adam Browne who dummied and jinked his way through the Bolton defence to score out wide. Dominic Kershaw added the extras.

Littleborough upped the gears to record another two tries.

The first saw neat passing put in Christopher Lynch under the posts. Converted by Kershaw.

Littleborough were on the Bolton line when the ball was fed to captain Kershaw who found winger Zach Luke Webster with a sublime cut out pass to put Littleborough 16 points to the good.

Then came a moment of magic from Nathan Mason who scooted in for a great individual try to seemingly put the visitors out of sight.

Littleborough went off the boil allowing Bolton Mets to get their tails up. Conceding three silly penalties the visitors let Bolton go from their own 20-metre line to Littleborough's try line as missed tackles let Daryl Devlin sail over for one of the easiest tries he will ever score.

Further penalties led to Littleborough's Adam Browne being sin-binned for a high tackle but strong tackling from Lynch, Tom Morris, Gareth Sharrocks and Gavin Low made sure they didn't let in any further tries when down to 11 men.

Scrum half Browne re-emerged from the sin-bin with a point to prove and ten minutes into the second half he made  it, sending loose forward Gareth Sharrocks over for the try. Converted by Kershaw.

Bolton's Ste Hickey started being more influential in the game. He sent Tom Crook over before loose forward Josh Bourne charged onto a Ste Hickey pass to take three or four players over the line with him.

Browne cut the Bolton defence to pieces before scoring.

If the game wasn't already out of reach for Bolton Jason Rigby made sure scoring two tries stepping and powering his way to the line before reaching out to put the ball down in the corner on both occasions.
