Cricket: Moore century helps Rochdale to victory over Bacup

Date published: 03 July 2018

Rochdale Cricket Club professional Ed Moore hit 132 not out in an innings which provided his side with a 134 run victory over Bacup.

Moore said farewell to his teammates in style – for the time being, at least - as he has been recalled to his South African state in time for their pre-season and left on Sunday.

(Rochdale have replaced him for the rest of the season with Nick Kelly, an Australian plying his trade with Northern Districts in New Zealand).

Moore enjoyed three slices of luck; he was dropped on 56 and 91, having survived a difficult stumping chance on 41.

Bacup were made to pay for their errors. Moore hit 14 fours and 4 sixes most in the final overs of the innings.

The only substantial support was provided by Andrew Dawson, who joined Moore as the half way stage of the innings approached, with the innings in the balance at 63 for 4. These two put on 60, Dawson being the dominant partner, but thereafter it was the Moore show.

After fielding in, and feeling, the heat for three hours, unsurprisingly Bacup were unable to summon any worthy response.

Wickets fell regularly almost from the start and only youngster Luke Donovan, showing grit and no little ability displayed much resistance.

Ben Chapman capitalised on Bacup’s predicament. Bowling full and straight he finished off the game, grabbing 5 for 19.
