Cricket: Norden legged up at Burnley

You could say Norden were legged up in their JW Lees Lancashire League match at Burnley on Saturday.

Six players were given out leg before, with three of the decisions causing more than a bit of bemusement in the ranks.

Then again, you could say the Norden batting was not up to scratch on the day as they slipped from 100 for three to 126 all out when chasing a winning target of 144.

The day started well enough, with Jake Sandham bowling Bedford first delivery, and Sandham quickly struck again when he had Chris Holt caught behind by Lee Crabtree.

Burnley rallied through Zakir and Shah, the latter hitting 35 before he was leg before to Hashum Malik.

Zakir scored 28 before being caught by Harvey Fitton to give Greg Butterworth the first of his four wickets.

At one stage Burnley were 92 for seven, but their tail provided a boost.

Norden’s reply saw them on 16 for three, with Josh Tolley, Harvey Fitton and Lee Crabtree back in the shed.

Dan Buckley and Sandham pulled the innings round to a winnable position. Buckley scored 42 before being bowled by Chris Holt, and Sandham was caught for 36.

Unfortunately for Norden only Greg Butterworth of the other batsmen reached double figures as it became a day to forget.
