Sailing: Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

Date published: 28 August 2018

Racing at the Lake on Sunday 26 August started with the annual Autumn Pursuit Race.

It certainly seemed autumnal with a cool blustery southerly wind.

Over a 50-minute period boats start in time sequence with the slowest first.

Thus 10-years-old Jasper Bramwell led others in his Topper for a long time, until overtaken by Adam McGovern and Ellie Davies in a GP14, who went on to win. It was only within the final minute that Jasper lost second place to David Smith in a Phantom.

Two points races were sailed after that and Adam McGovern continued in strong form winning both races.

Nick Brook was runner-up in the first (Solo) and Matt Winder, with son Tom, in a Merlin Rocket was third.

An unlikely capsize occurred when Les Burns (GP14) leant back and the toe straps snapped leading to the inversion and time in the water for crew Kevin Parry.

The wind eased and became westerly for the final race. This time Matt Winder was runner-up and Jasper sailed well for third place.
