Mixed Martial Arts: Local woman selected to take part in Amateur World Championships

Date published: 21 September 2018

A woman from Rochdale has been selected for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Amateur World Championships in Bahrain between 11-18 November.

Charlotte Brown, who trains at Full Contact Performance Centre, was selected for the UK to compete in the female Bantam weight division following trials approximately six weeks ago.

She is the first woman from Rochdale to take part in the competition, which will see her fly out to Bahrain in early November.

She will fight three times over the week against contestants from across the globe.

Mixed Martial Arts, also known as cage-fighting, is a full-contact combat sport using techniques from a range of combat sports and martial arts.

Joint owner of Full Contact, Martin Stapleton, himself a world cage fighting champion, said: “We hope that Charlotte will become our second world champion from the gym.”

However, Charlotte has to cover all the costs herself, which will be approximately £1,700 for flights, accommodation, medicals and her competition entry.

A fundraiser has been started to help sent her to the championships and has raised approximately £800.
