Rugby Union: Littleborough Thirds 19 - 35 Trafford MV

Date published: 24 September 2018

Littleborough Rugby Union third team were taught another tough lesson about Division 3 North with a defeat to Trafford MV.

Littleborough started brightly and found themselves on the front foot.

However, it was Trafford who sored the first try of the game as the centre burst through and evaded the last-ditch challenge of full back Aaron Jones.

Trafford got a second down the right-hand corner as the number eight steamed over from the base of the scrum.

Trafford were well drilled and forced Littleborough back into the 22.

Jones got on the wrong side of the referees whistle for not rolling away and punished with a yellow, and during his 10 minutes off the pitch, Trafford capitalised with another two tries to extend the lead to 23 points to nil.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Littleborough side spark into life.

James Muir showed his strength, barraging over from a tap penalty five metres out. Thomas Travis converted.

A second Littleborough try quickly followed as James Muir ploughed a hole in the Trafford defence before offloading to prop David Mills to score under the posts. Conor Tetlow converted.

Trafford checked the increasing Littleborough momentum with a well worked try that was polished off by the right winger.

Good work from Keir Tweddle, in his first rugby game, and Aaron Jones, in their own half set full back Danny Whitehead free down the left. He had the presence of mind to fend off the covering tackle and to touch down behind the posts.

Trafford finished the game the way they started with a try - the number five getting the ball on the try line.
