Cycling: Young cyclist fulfilling his dream of becoming a full-time trainee racing cyclist

Date published: 20 November 2018

From next year Cameron Pilkington, a pupil at St Cuthbert's RC High School, will be fulfilling his dream of becoming a full-time trainee racing cyclist. He is one of only a handful of young people who will be given the opportunity to train alongside the British Team.

Across the 2017-2018 season Cameron was part of the National School of Racing (NSR) coaching programme.

The Regional School of Racing (RSR) and NSR programmes are run for youth cyclists as support from British Cycling for promising young cyclists. These British Cycling programmes are not full-time programmes but support sessions for young athletes both on and off the bike. National School of Racing, developed by British Cycling, supports cyclists to progress into the Great Britain Cycling Team programmes.

Cameron is a member of Mossley Cycle Racing Team and is ranked 11th in the country within his category. He also recently came 8th in the National Championships.

When asked about what he is looking forward to most Cameron said: “I can’t wait to progress into European level races.”
