Boxing: UK’s first diabetic boxer remains unbeaten after winning third pro fight
Date published: 14 December 2018
Muhammad Ali won his third fight
Type one diabetic boxer Muhammad Ali has continued his winning streak after defeating Ben Fields in his third pro fight at the Bolton Macron on 8 December.
Ali won the fight against the previously unbeaten Fields on points with a 39-37 victory.
His manager, Asad Shamim, says Ali is hoping to go after a British title fight in 2019.
Ali made history on 15 September after winning his professional debut, becoming the first UK boxer with type one diabetes to fight, following a three-year battle against the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).

Ali had previously had his application for a professional licence turned down by the BBBofC as a result of his medical condition, because checking blood sugar levels during a fight would be ‘too disruptive’ – despite contradictory advice from the national governing body for boxing.
With the support of manager Shamim and medical doctor, Ian Gallan, a leading diabetes consultant in the UK, the decision was overturned.
An ambassador for Diabetes UK, Ali has now gained premium sponsorships from David Lloyd Clubs Manchester North, JMR Solicitors, American company Dexcom and most recently with local company ThinAir Sports.
