Boxing: Queensway ABC boxer wins first bout with TKO

Date published: 19 February 2019

It was a huge night for Queensway ABC boxer Hasaam Ahmad on Wednesday 13 February, after many months of dedicated training and conditioning the time had come for Hasaam to make his debut, winning with a technical knockout (TKO).

His first bout was at The Harehills Labour Club in Leeds where Sharky’s Boxing Academy were hosting a show.

Hasaam’s opponent was Usman Mahmood from Round One Boxing Club in Bradford.

Hasaam had prepared exceptionally well in the gym and weighed in spot on at 60kg.

As both boxers were announced it was clear that Hasaam had a great following from Rochdale and his band of supporters were in for a treat.

As the contest started both boxers traded jabs, looking to find their range and the Queensway boxer did exactly what his coaches asked of him.

Mahmood came back at him and forced him into the corner, but Hasaam did exceptionally well to box his way out of trouble and caught his opponent with more good shots before they came together in the centre of the ring.

Hasaam caught his opponent with a great right hand shot to the chin which knocked him down and as Mahmood tried to regain his composure it was clear he was in no fit state to continue.

The referee counted Mahmood out which meant that the Queensway boxer had won his first contest by TKO in the first round.

After the celebration of winning his first contest, Hasaam was also awarded ‘Best Senior Boxer of The Night’ Award.

Coach Gareth Pratt said: “a great night for him and very rewarding for his coaches too.

“The hard work will start again now for Hasaam who will be preparing for his second contest soon.”
