Sailing: Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

Date published: 24 October 2019

Ten boats raced at Hollingworth Lake on Sunday 20 October in a deceptively breezy north easterly wind. This led to a few capsizes but recovery was always quick.

Martin Brennan, in a Solo, won all three races ahead of Bruce Mager and Craig Jowett in a Merlin Rocket, who were the on the water leaders but unable to beat their handicap. The advantage fell to young Hector Droungas who sailed well in a Topper for two second places, with Andy Carter (Solo) in third place overall.

Chris Massey and Tom Daniel went to Pennine Sailing Club, near Holmfirth, for their 60th Anniversary Regatta and finished fourth in a Scorpion.

Three young sailors from Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club have finished in the top ten of the North West Junior Travellers Series, out of over 100 competing sailors.

Daisy Fisher in a Topper finished 6th and has now been selected for RYA Squad Training. In 7th place Adam Din and Olivia Zuniga raced in a RS200, sometimes in a Laser. Hector Droungas came 8th and was the leading U14 sailor in a Topper. Jasper Bramwell (15th) and Jacob Din (20th) also scored well as U14 sailors.
