Challenge Cup: Draw for third and fourth rounds hosted by Rochdale Hornets

Date published: 02 February 2022

The third and fourth round draws for the Challenge Cup were hosted by Rochdale Hornets at the Crown Oil Arena yesterday (1 February) and broadcast live on BBC Sport.

Rochdale-born England Women's international Vicky Molyneux helped to conduct the draw and she pulled out her former community club Rochdale Mayfield as a home draw after their narrow 18-16 win over West Hull.

Paul Sculthorpe MBE, four times a Challenge Cup winner with St Helens, was drawing the numbers for the away teams and pulled Doncaster as Mayfield's opponents in the third round.

Rochdale Hornets will travel to Castleford to face Lock Lane in the third round of the Betfred Challenge Cup later this month.

Matt Calland’s side impressively saw off Midlands Hurricanes 36-16 live on BBC Sport to earn their place in the next round, in what was the Hornets’ first competitive fixture since September 2021.

Should Hornets defeat Lock Lane, in what is the centenary of the Crown Oil Arena outfit’s only Challenge Cup triumph in 1922, they will host Championship side Barrow Raiders.

Mayfield, meanwhile, would host Championship outfit Whitehaven in the fourth round should they find a way past Doncaster.
