Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: fundraiser to send star, 11, to IBJJF Kids Pan American World Championships this summer

Date published: 18 February 2022

A local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu star is hoping to raise £3,000 to compete in a world championship in Florida.

Andrew Perez, 11, trains at Team Sukata in Warrington under Lee Simpson, a fellow black belt and secured his first gold medal of 2022 at the All Stars Winter Edition South in January, winning by submission in the under 34kg grappling industries division in just 23 seconds.

The Holy Family pupil is also well-versed in Judo and Thai Boxing and trains for two or three hours, six days a week.

His training has certainly paid off, as after winning a number of competitions, Andrew has been offered the opportunity to compete in the IBJJF Kids Pan American World Championships in July 2022.

The event is considered one of the most prestigious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in the world and is hosted each year.

Any money donated will be spent on Andrew’s travel, food, accommodation, training and entry fees, with the family having received over £100 in donations the first three days.
