Rugby league: Mayfield preview

Date published: 08 April 2022

Mayfield coaches Sam Butterworth and Steve Wood take a strong squad with them for this weekend's game at Lock Lane and after last weeks outing against Hunslet Club Parkside, make the trip knowing they can do the business.

"There wont be many teams go there and win this season," said Sam Butterworth as he contemplated the fixture in Castleford. "They are a quality side without doubt, but I firmly believe we are too and we will be doing our best to prove that this afternoon."

Mayfield's performance against Hunslet was superb and with just a little better game management and discipline they would have overcome the Leeds side and picked up two valuable points. "That was last week though, and we learn from that and move on and hopefully improve," said Butterworth.

Mayfield's forwards were outstanding in the last game and their showing inspired the rest of the team to go forward and they certainly showed that they can. There was quality rugby right through the side and if they produce anything like that on Saturday they are certainly in with a chance of an upset.

Fixture 9 April 2022

  • NCL Premier Division: Lock Lane v Mayfield, kick off 2.30pm
