Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club triumph at the World Masters Rowing Championships

Date published: 20 September 2022

Five members of Hollingworth Lake Rowing Cub walked away from the 2022 World Rowing Masters Regatta in Libourne near Bordeaux, France, with nine gold medals between them.

Alex Barnett was the star of the show with three single sculls wins in Masters A, B and C categories and a double sculls win with Keith Lawton in the Master D double sculls. Graham and Nigel Price achieved wins in both sculling and rowing with wins in Masters F coxless pairs and double sculls.

Given the sad state of the water at Hollingworth Lake, it is surprising that a small rowing club in the north west of England can make such an impact on the world stage.

The 2022 World Rowing Masters Regatta in Libourne neat Bordeaux, France saw 622 races taking place involving 3,200 athletes. From the individual men’s and women’s age groups to the mixed events, the regatta had hugely competitive athletes with many former Olympians.

Next year the World Championships are in South Africa and the club is already planning for the event.
