Rochdale Hornets Foundation to host more wheelchair taster sessions in 2023

Date published: 19 December 2022

After the success of the club’s recent wheelchair rugby league taster sessions, Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation will be hosting more taster sessions in the new year.

To date the club has delivered two taster sessions and already had 14 new faces attending and trying the sport for the very first time.

“We are really proud how the sessions have gone and due to the success we’re planning on having two more taster sessions in January prior to the team’s official pre-season training commencing in February,‘’ said Carl Abraham, the Hornets WhRL head coach.

‘’Individuals from all different backgrounds have been getting involved, whether that’s current/ex-rugby players, male or female players, people with and without disabilities, a vast array of people have been in touch wanting to just give the sport a go.”

Carl hailed the club’s recent media coverage at Redwood school and the impact made by the World Cup for the upsurge of interest in the wheelchair game. With all the games being shown on BBC, a new audience has been brought to the sport.

He added: ‘’I think that things are looking really positive going into 2023 and I’m excited to see where we can take it.’’
