An athlete from Rochdale won the ladies triple jump at the British Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham on 18 February.
Mary Elcock, 27, took gold in the women’s triple jump event that came down to the wire.
The event had been led by Lily Hulland before Elcock equalled that effort in the fourth round.
Elcock’s 12.71m – a personal best – was enough to give her gold in the final round after Hulland couldn’t register a mark.
As a child, Elcock attended Norden Primary School and Crompton House High School. She trained at Rochdale Olympic Gymnastics Club for 10 years before focusing on athletics, training with Oldham and Royton Harriers.
She went to Loughborough University, and after graduation moved to London.
