Date published: 14 May 2023

11-year-old Isla-Rose Goodfellow - Great Britain World Championship squad member representing The Dojo Karate Centre - won a silver medal at the Midlands Martial Arts Competition in Leicestershire on Sunday 7 May.

Isla-Rose earned herself a silver medal in her kumite (fighting category) ahead of the World Championships in Florida this summer.

Mum Nikki Fenton said: "Her dad and I are super proud of Isla-Rose: she has been working really hard with her senseis at the Dojo Karate Centre to better her fighting abilities.

"She has overcome some massive challenges with her anxiety and shyness, but once she gets that fighting equipment on, she is a brilliant fighter.

"She has more to learn but we know she will always learn new things to help her along the way."

Isla-Rose will be travelling to Daytona, Florida in July where she will be competing under the Great Britain Martial Arts Team in a three-day tournament.

She is looking forward to competing with the Team GB squad and she feels this is "a massive achievement."
