Rugby league: Mayfield preview

Date published: 01 June 2023

York Acorn will be the visitors on Saturday (3 June) to the Mayfield Sports Centre for a NCL Premier Division clash.

Acorn had a poor start to the season but have put together some good results over the last few games, including a great away win at West Hull. With this in mind, the coaching staff have taken preparation for this game very seriously, Acorn are not a team to be under estimated and coaches Sam Butterworth and Steve Wood have put the lads through their paces in training this week.

There will be changes again this week as players come back from injury and it will be a strong team that takes to the field on Saturday.

Last weeks performance at Thatto Heath was a superb team effort, with some great individual showings. Jordan Parr is playing some fantastic rugby at full back while Devlin Long and Sam Wright at 6 and 7 are forming one of the best half back partnerships seen at Mayfield for years. In the forwards Travis Long, Seta Tala and Ben Metcalfe are having a huge impact, while Dec Sheridan and Sean Penkywicz as interchange hookers are top drawer.

This Mayfield team is one to watch for sure but the coaches are well aware that to win games you have to take each one as it comes, there are no easy games at this level and each one could be the one that catches you out if you don't prepare properly. So Mayfield go into this one ready to do battle and know they will have to be at their best to get the result from a strong York team.

Fixtures Saturday 3 June 2023
