Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

Date published: 08 June 2024

There was close racing at the Lake on a sunny Sunday afternoon (2 June). A  light and somewhat fickle wind provided opportunities to gain or lose places on the race track, so there were three different race winners. Overall the day went to Martin Brennan in his Solo. This was a sharp contrast to the previous Sunday’s thunder, lightening  and hail.

A clear winner in the first race was Richard and Heather Marsh in their RS400, keeping their spinnaker flying downwind. Sailing a lap less was their daughter, Jessica, in a Topper; an excellent result. In third place was Martin Brennan, ahead of another Solo, helmed by Nigel Davey. Showing improving results, in fifth place was another Topper helmed by Annabelle Bramwell.

The second race found Martin Brennan back to leading form with the win, followed by the Marsh couple. Young Jessica Marsh maintained her form with a third place.

Some of the faster boats decided not to race in the third race and Martin Brennan was up against a competitive Annabelle Bramwell who won, with Nigel Davey taking third place.

On Saturday the Bramwells went to Coniston for a North West Topper Travellers event.  On a sunny day, they had a fine set of results with close racing in a fleet of 18 Toppers. Jasper finished second overall, having been beaten in one race by Xavier, who came 5th overall. Annabelle was 7th overall (3rd girl).
