Rochdale AFC demand apology from Rochdale Observer

Date published: 17 April 2007

Rochdale Association Football Club feel the need to make an official club statement following a number of inaccurate remarks printed in the Rochdale Observer dated Wednesday 18 April 2007.

The Football Clubs bank accounts have not been frozen as reported, nor has it been advised by its bankers that it will not be able to draw cheques on its account for player's wages. On the contrary all players and staff have been paid and will continue to be paid in the normal way and the Inland Revenue has also been paid.

These statements are completely untrue, our bank account has never been frozen and player's wages have never been put in jeopardy.

Chairman, Chris Dunphy stated "I am amazed and frankly disappointed by the comments made in the Rochdale Observer whereby they state that the bank account was frozen and player's wages would not be paid. These statements are completely untrue, our bank account has never been frozen and player's wages have never been put in jeopardy."

Mr Dunphy added: "This type of sensationalism acts to undermine all the excellent work and progress that this club had made over the last four months and comes at a time when everyone's efforts should be focused on team building and preparing for next season.

"Our Chief Executive, Colin Garlick has contacted the Rochdale Observer and requested an immediate apology and retraction, I expect this apology to appear in Saturday's Observer or we will be taking legal advice."
