Rochdale position my fault says Dunphy

Rochdale chairman Chris Dunphy has accepted responsibility for the club's position at the bottom of League One.

Dale lie six points from safety after the 2-2 draw with Huddersfield.

"We were expecting better this season and I take full responsibility for it. We got it wrong early in the season," he told BBC Late Kick Off North West.

"I think we've addressed the problems now, it's just a case of whether we've got enough time to pull it around and I think we have."

Current Dale boss John Coleman was brought in from Accrington at the end of January to replace former Manchester City youth-team coach Steve Eyre.

Eyre left the club in December after just six months in charge and only four wins in 21 games, leaving them 22nd.

Despite winning his first game in charge, Coleman's side have managed just one other win during his tenure which has sees them now prop up League One.

"It [the position] has nothing to do with John or since John came in," Dunphy added.

“We have got contingency plans for next season should the worst happen”

"I think we've certainly tightened the defence up and we've looked a lot better, and are playing some good football.

"It's just what we did in the early part of the season is catching up with us now and we're running out of games.

"We'll take every game as it comes and I still feel we can get out of this, we need six wins and two draws. There are certainly more than six winnable games in the fixture list."

With only 10 games remaining Dunphy also revealed they have thought about the consequences of relegation if they do drop to League Two.

"On the plus side, we're going to turn in a good profit for this season," he stated.

"But we have got contingency plans for next season that will allow us, should the worst happen, to be able to build a team to bounce back up again."
