Wycombe Wanderers 0 - 2 Rochdale

Date published: 22 March 2014

Rochdale maintained top spot in League Two after second half goals from Jamie Allen and Peter Vincenti saw Keith Hill’s men take the points against relegation threatened Wycombe. Allen volleyed home Vincenti’s knock down and then netted his fifth goal of the season when he tapped home after Lancashire’s header was blocked on the line.

Hill made two changes from midweek, Ollie Lancashire returned from suspension and got the nod ahead of Jack O’Connell and with Matty Lund suspended, Michael Rose returned to the starting 11.

The early pressure was from Wycombe who went very close to opening the scoring after Dean Morgan’s flick found Reece Styche, who did well to beat Lancashire but saw his shot hit the post.

Morgan headed over when well placed and Max Kretzschmar saw his fierce free-kick tipped over by Dale keeper Josh Lillis as Wycombe continued to look the main threat.

Dale only tested Ingram as the half neared its end with Vincenti being denied by a superb save.

Wycombe started the second half as they did the first and went close through Lewis and Kretzschmar, but were made to pay for not taking their chances soon after.

A Dale corner was only partially cleared by Wood with the ball falling kindly for Allen, who smashed an unstoppable volley beyond Ingram.

As the game wore on Rochdale started to impose themselves and went very close through Michael Rose. The midfielder’s left-footed strike was tipped against the bar by home keeper Ingram to deny Dale a second.

The travelling support didn’t have long to wait for the points to be sealed. When Lancashire was denied by Ingram, Vincenti was on hand to turn home the loose ball.

This win keeps Dale two points clear at the top of League Two and with Fleetwood’s defeat at Exeter, the gap to fourth place has stretched to nine points with eight games to go.
