Mayfield Preview

Date published: 27 March 2014

Mayfield entertain Saddleworth Rangers at the Mayfield Sports Centre on Saturday in the Kingston Press Cider NCL Division One.

As well as two league points at stake the winners also progress to the semi-final of the Oldham Standard Cup.

Both sides have agreed to play this game as a 'double header'. If the game finishes as a draw after 80 mins the result will stand for the purposes of the league fixture, however, there will be extra time then a golden point to decide the winners of the cup game.

Games between these two sides have been memorable over the years with Mayfield edging the recent results, but Saturday's game promises to be a close one as both sides have only lost one game this season so far.

Saddleworth will still be smarting from last week's shock 26 - 0 defeat at Myton, a side who had not won a game this season.

Mayfield managed to salvage themselves a point away at York Acorn after an indifferent showing.

Mayfield will be looking to welcome back some players who were missing last week with Sam Butterworth and Si Moore hoping to return along with Ben Butterworth, although Ieuan Higgs is a doubt after picking up a hamstring injury at York.

Sponsors for the clash are Heron Bakers of Rochdale and Ace Electrical.

The NWML side make the trip to Warrington to play Latchford Albion. Latchford currently top the table with three wins from three but Mayfield aren`t far behind with two from three to their credit. Dunc Simpson will be hoping for a full squad to select from and will delay selection until the last minute so as to be able to include the lads who don`t make the cut with the NCL side. All players meet at the club.

Fixtures 29.03.14
